Army Maj. Gen. Frederick S. Rudesheim, the director for capability development (J8), serves as lead joint integrator for all of DoD's uniformed components and oversees the Joint Command and Control Capability Portfolio Management program.
J8 works with the combatant commanders, the Joint Staff, the services and other federal departments and agencies to combine all of the military's capabilities into a single focused effort, connecting current capabilities to future concepts.
USJFCOM J8 is supported by two subordinate centers, the Joint Systems Integration Center (JSIC) and the Joint Fires Integration and Interoperability Team (JFIIT). The Joint Unmanned Aerial Systems Center of Excellence (JUAS COE) maintains an interface with USJFCOM through J8.
His previous joint assignments include a tour with the 8th U.S. Army in Korea and two tours with the Joint Staff.
He served as deputy commanding general-support of the 1st Cavalry Division and Multi-National Division-Baghdad during a deployment to Iraq from February 2009 to January 2010. He served as the commander of 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (Mech.) during a rotation to Iraq from April 2003 to March 2004.
Rudesheim was commissioned in May 1981 following graduation from the University of Texas. His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with "V" device, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Achievement Medal.
He has earned the Combat Infantryman, Expert Infantryman, Parachutist and Air Assault identification badges and is Ranger qualified.
