Lieutenant Colonel Michael M. Cho currently serves as an action officer in the Joint Enterprise Architecture Branch, Enterprise Services Division, Joint Staff J-6. His primary duties are to develop, coordinate, and evaluate enterprise architectures that improve information sharing for the warfighter.
Lieutenant Colonel Cho was born in 1971 in Washington D.C. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1993 at the U.S. Naval Academy, where he also received a B.S. in Systems Engineering. He graduated the Basic Officer Course in February 1994 and then attended the Data Systems Officer Course.
From October 1994 to June 1997 he was assigned to the Marine Corps Computer and Telecommunications Activity, Quantico, VA, as a Software Projects Officer. He released the first version of the Combat Development Tracking System which is still in use by the Marine Corps Combat Development Command.
From June 1997 to August 1998 he was assigned to the J-6, Standing Joint Task Force Headquarters, Camp Lejeune, NC, as the Network Operations Officer. He participated in Exercises Unified Endeavor 98 in England; Brave Knight 98 in Germany; and Fuerzas Unidas 98 in Key West, FL.
From August 1998 to July 1999 he was assigned to the G-6, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, NC, as the Network Plans Officer and participated in Exercise Battle Griffin 99 in Norway.
From July 1999 to June 2003 he participated in the Foreign Area Officer Program which included graduate studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, followed by Korean foreign language training and travel abroad.
From June 2003 to June 2007 he was assigned to the 1st Marine Logistics Group, Camp Pendleton, CA, and served in the following billets: Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, G-6; Information Management Officer; Headquarters and Services Battalion Executive Officer; and Communications Company Commander. He deployed twice to Iraq during this period in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
From July 2007 to July 2010 he was assigned to the Plans, Policies, and Operations Directorate, Headquarters Marine Corps, where he supported senior Marine Corps leadership with international policy analysis and recommendations.
Lieutenant Colonel Cho holds a M.S. in Software Engineering from George Mason University and a M.A. in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School.
