Colonel Jenks Reid entered the Army in March 1981 as an Army Reservist assigned to the 1189th Transportation Terminal Unit in Charleston, S.C. In 1985 he graduated and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. COL Reid’s military education includes the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course, the Infantry Officer Advance Course, Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College, and the Naval War College.
Colonel Reid’s tactical assignments include Platoon Leader in 3rd Battalion, 67th Air Defense Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, Wurzburg, Germany and Aide de Camp to the Commanding General, Battery Commander, 1st Battalion, 5th Air Attack Artillery, 24th ID, during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, TX, and Commander, 1st Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery, 1st Armor Division, in Baghdad, Iraq and Wackernheim, Germany.
Colonel Reid’s staff assignments include Assistant Professor of Military Science at the Virginia Military Institute, Lexington, Virginia; National Training Center Observer Controller at Ft Irwin, California; Air Defense Officer, 3rd Brigade Combat Team (Stryker), 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, Washington; Transformation staff officer, TRADOC Brigade Coordination Cell, Fort Lewis, Washington; US Joint Forces Command, Division Chief, C2 Capability Development (J82), and then Chief of Staff, Joint Capability Directorate (J8).
In February 2011 Colonel Reid was assigned as Division Chief of the Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) Interoperability Assessments Division (J8), Suffolk, VA.
Colonel Reid’s skill badges include the Parachutist Badge and Ranger Tab. His awards include the Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (6 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal. Colonel Reid was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1985 and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2008.
Colonel Reid is married to Tina Laney Reid and they have two teenage sons, Luke and Nick Reid.
