A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kristopher L. Strance graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1974 with a Bachelor of University Studies degree in Biology and Chemistry. He received his commission in the U.S. Navy in April 1975. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he joined the Civil Service working in the Department of Defense (DoD).
He possesses over thirty-five years of experience in Information Technology (IT) and National Security Systems (NSS), including policy, planning, development, programming, and operational employment. Technical and management experience extends from field operations to the White House Military Office, and includes key policy and planning positions working directly for senior government executives.
Mr. Strance is currently serving as the DoD lead for Internet Protocol (IP) and interoperability policy in the Office of the DoD Chief Information Officer. He is responsible for development of DoD policy for: Unified Capabilities (convergence of voice, video, and/or data services over IP enabled networks); IT and NSS interoperability; and DoD IPv6 implementation.
